On the afternoon of the same day, Governor Kim presided over an 'Emergency Response Readiness Inspection Video Conference' to prepare for the typhoon's approach at the video conference room on the 6th floor of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, discussing typhoon preparedness measures and response plans.
The meeting was attended by Nam Hwa-young, Chief of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, and heads of each department at the headquarters. Fire chiefs from the northern headquarters and all 35 fire stations in the province participated via video conference.
Governor Kim said, "With the Chuseok holiday approaching, Typhoon Hinnamnor is moving northward, and according to the Meteorological Administration's forecast, it is expected to pass through the southern part of the Korean Peninsula in the early morning of the 6th, so special preparations are necessary," adding, "I ask the fire department to respond and prepare with special vigilance."
He continued, "Please pay special attention to vulnerable areas and vulnerable groups in preparation for the typhoon," and added, "Please double-check to ensure that areas and residents who suffered damage during the recent heavy rains do not experience damage again this time."
He also requested, "Since the typhoon will pass just before the Chuseok holiday, please ensure there is no negligence in emergency duty during the holiday at crowded places such as traditional markets, shopping malls, and movie theaters," and "Please pay special attention to the safety management of firefighters."
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters has entered an emergency rescue response posture in preparation for the typhoon's approach, including maintaining fire station chiefs at their posts, keeping all water-fighting equipment 100% operational, and expanding the 119 emergency call center from 29 units during normal times to a maximum of 72 units to handle a surge in calls.
In particular, they plan to operate emergency duty and an emergency rescue control team according to the crisis alert level and to utilize all available resources for on-site activities in case of typhoon damage.
Additionally, to cope with a surge in 119 calls, 48 call-back personnel will be deployed to track and manage unreceived emergency calls.
Earlier, around 2 p.m. on the same day, Governor Kim visited the drainage pump station in Pyeong-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City, to check the operation status of the drainage pump station and encourage the officials.
At the site, Governor Kim inspected the operation of emergency electrical facilities in preparation for power outages, the normal operation of pumps, and the proper functioning of sluice gates. He also urged officials to conduct thorough pre-inspections to ensure smooth operation of the drainage pump station during heavy rains.
The drainage pump station is a facility installed to discharge rainwater inflow during rainfall into nearby rivers to prevent flooding. There are 226 such stations in 25 cities and counties in the province, including Suwon City.
