On the 3rd (Korean time), at The International (par 70) in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, during the first round of the LIV Golf Invitational Boston (total prize money $25 million), Smith scored 6-under 64 with 2 eagles, 5 birdies, 1 bogey, and 1 double bogey, tying for 3rd place with Joaqu?n Niemann (Chile). He was just one stroke behind the leader. Smith, the winner of this year's 150th Open Championship and ranked 2nd in the world, joined LIV Golf on the 30th of last month after receiving a $100 million transfer fee.
On that day, Smith made his first birdie on the 3rd hole (par 4) and followed with consecutive birdies on the 5th and 6th holes (par 4). He then recorded an eagle on the 8th hole (par 5), reducing five strokes in the early part of the round. He made a bogey on the 9th hole (par 4), a birdie on the 11th hole (par 3), but committed a double bogey mistake on the 14th hole (par 4). However, he recovered with a birdie on the 15th hole (par 4) and finished with a decisive eagle on the final 18th hole (par 5).
