Eight Police Officers Killed in Bombing and Shooting in Colombia
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] On the 2nd (local time) at around 2:30 PM, eight police officers were reported killed in a bomb attack and shooting by assailants in the San Luis area of Neiva City, Huila Department, southwestern Colombia.
These officers were reportedly on their way to San Luis for social welfare activities.
The military and police dispatched personnel to the scene to recover the bodies, and considering the difficulty of quick access on unpaved mountain roads, helicopters were also deployed.
The identity of the attackers has not been revealed, but authorities stated that two dissidents live in the area and expressed their intention to investigate them.
President Gustavo Petro posted on social media (Twitter) that day, strongly condemning "acts that destroy complete peace" and stating that he would "stand in solidarity with the bereaved families."
