[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 4th, Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will host the Seoul Mongolian Family ‘Nadam’ Festival, organized by the Mongolian Ulaanbaatar Cultural Promotion Institute and the Mongolian School in Korea.
The Seoul Mongolian Family ‘Nadam’ Festival is an event inspired by Mongolia’s largest traditional festival ‘Nadam,’ which showcases Mongolian cultural characteristics and strengthens ethnic identity. This year marks its 22nd anniversary.
Since 2020, the festival was held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but this year, after three years, the festival will be held at the Mongolian School in Korea’s playground.
At the festival, visitors can enjoy traditional Mongolian performances featuring traditional songs, dances, and musical instruments, as well as experience Mongolian traditional culture through events such as ▲ traditional archery competition ▲ singing contest ▲ Shagai game (a Mongolian folk game using sheep ankle bones to hit the opposite horse) ▲ arm wrestling competition ▲ traditional house experience ▲ food tasting, and more.
The opening ceremony will be graced by Erdenechkhet Sarangtergus, the Mongolian Ambassador to Korea, Lim Eun-bin, Director of the Mongolian Ulaanbaatar Cultural Promotion Institute, and Yoo Hae-geun, Director of the Mongolian School in Korea, adding further prestige to the festival.
