Prosecutors Decide Not to Indict Former Minister Park Beom-gye for Participating in Group Chat During Presidential Election Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] The prosecution has decided not to indict former Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye, who was reported for participating in a group chat room used for election campaigning by Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, during the presidential election.
According to civic groups on the 2nd, the Criminal Division 3 of the Anyang Branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jin-yong) decided not to indict former Minister Park, who was reported the day before on charges including violation of the Public Official Election Act, citing lack of evidence.
The civic group Action Alliance for Restoring the Rule of Law (Beopse-ryeon) reported former Minister Park to the prosecution after it became known that he participated in Lee's election campaign group chat room during the presidential election period while still in office.

In response, former Minister Park explained, "I was invited without my will or consent," adding, "I did not know the nature of the chat room, nor who was in it, and I did not leave any opinions."
