View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Jin Seong-jun, the senior deputy floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, confirmed on the 2nd that he would "consider" the related procedures regarding the special law for First Lady Kim Geon-hee and the motion to dismiss Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon and Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min. He predicted that the summons of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung by the prosecution would have a negative impact on the regular National Assembly session.
On the same day, Deputy Floor Leader Jin appeared on MBC Radio’s “Kim Jong-bae’s Focus” and said regarding the special investigation law for Kim Geon-hee, "The special investigation law proposed by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yong-min defines three investigation scopes: one is the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case, another is the forgery of academic and career records of First Lady Kim Geon-hee, and the third is suspicions related to the relocation of the Presidential Office." He added, "Since the investigations by the prosecution and police into the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case and the forgery of academic and career records have not been properly conducted, I believe this is a condition that justifies pushing forward the special investigation law."
He continued, "Regarding issues such as private contract suspicions related to the relocation of the Presidential Office, I think it is necessary to first promote a parliamentary audit (before the special investigation)." He said, "We will make a judgment on the special investigation law for Kim Geon-hee while monitoring the investigation status and the progress of the parliamentary audit."
When asked about the possibility of promoting the law as a party stance of the Democratic Party rather than as individual lawmakers’ legislation, he said, "It cannot be ruled out depending on the situation."
Regarding the enforcement ordinances such as the restoration of the prosecution’s investigative authority (검수원복) and the establishment of the Police Bureau, which the opposition claims violate the parent law, he said, "According to Article 98, Paragraph 2 of our National Assembly Act, the National Assembly has the authority to request the government to correct illegal enforcement ordinances." He added, "I think this should be activated first." He further stated, "If the government does not correct unconstitutional and ultra vires enforcement ordinances despite this, we cannot help but actively consider exercising the National Assembly’s authority granted by the Constitution and the National Assembly Act." He said, "(The motion to dismiss the relevant ministers) is also one of the options."
He also expressed displeasure regarding the prosecution’s summons of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. Deputy Floor Leader Jin said, "It inevitably affects the operation of the regular National Assembly session," adding, "It is nothing but an attempt to disgrace and harass the leader of the main opposition party, and all our party members are outraged about this." He said, "Relations between the ruling and opposition parties will not proceed smoothly, and if the emotional confrontation and standoff between the two sides intensify, it will inevitably affect the regular National Assembly session." He added, "There are still emotional rifts between the ruling and opposition parties, causing constant clashes. Now that this incident has occurred, I think it makes cooperation and negotiation even more difficult."
