Seoul Museum of History, International Symposium on "20 Years of Exchange Achievements among Korean, Chinese, and Japanese Urban Museums"
Held on the 5th at Seoul Museum of History
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Museum of History announced on the 2nd that it will host the '2022 Korea-China-Japan International Symposium' on the 5th at the Seoul Museum of History, inviting delegations from the Capital Museum (首都博物館) of China, a representative city museum of East Asia, and the Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戶東京博物館) of Japan.
Marking its 19th edition, the Korea-China-Japan International Symposium is hosted by the Seoul Museum of History, with the theme 'City Museums and Future Strategies.' This symposium brings together Kim Yong-seok, director of the Seoul Museum of History; Han Zanming (??明), an expert on traditional Chinese bells and director of the Capital Museum; and Fujimori Terunobu (藤森照信), a world-renowned architect and architectural historian and director of the Edo-Tokyo Museum. They will share experiences in reorganizing permanent exhibitions of city museums in Korea, China, and Japan, and explore future development directions preparing for the next 20 years.
In Part 1, 'Future Strategies Responding to Changes in Urban Environments,' Tanaka Nobuhiro (田中延?) deputy director of the Edo-Tokyo Museum will introduce the Edo-Tokyo Museum’s response strategies to changes in Tokyo’s urban environment. Park Sang-bin (朴相彬), director of the Cheonggyecheon Museum, will present the Seoul Museum of History’s future strategies preparing for the next 20 years, and Tan Xiaoling (譚?玲), deputy director of the Capital Museum, will present key future preparedness measures of the Capital Museum, which is building a 'museum city.'
In Part 2, 'Cases of Permanent Exhibition Renovations,' after case presentations from the three museums, a comprehensive discussion will follow. Starting with a presentation by Kim Yang-gyun (金亮均), head of exhibitions at the Seoul Museum of History, on the newly renovated permanent exhibition hall marking the museum’s 20th anniversary, followed by a case presentation by Zhang Yu (?宇), chief of the Capital Museum East Building Construction Promotion, on the construction of the East Building of the Capital Museum, and a presentation by Taki Ryosuke (瀧良介), a specialist researcher at the Edo-Tokyo Museum, on the 2015 exhibition hall renewal case of the Edo-Tokyo Museum. After the presentations, a comprehensive discussion and Q&A session will be held with six presenters, chaired by Park Hyun-wook (朴鉉旭), head of research at the Seoul Museum of History.

Before the symposium, Kim Yong-seok, director of the Seoul Museum of History, said, "This symposium will be an opportunity for the Seoul Museum of History, marking its 20th anniversary, to reflect on the past 20 years and discuss strategies to prepare for the next 20 years." He added, "We look forward to listening to the experiences and lessons of city museums representing China and Japan and sharing each other’s concerns and strategies."
