Changwon Special City Holds Ceremony to Promote Women's Rights and Commemorate Gender Equality Week
At Seongsan Art Hall... Unique Talks, Poperra, and Various Celebration Performances
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the '2022 Changwon City Gender Equality Week Ceremony' with 1,000 attendees, including women's organizations and citizens.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] On the afternoon of the 1st, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held the ‘2022 Changwon City Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony’ at the Seongsan Art Hall Grand Theater, attended by 1,000 people including women’s organizations and citizens.
The event was held under the slogan “A Happy Journey Where Everyone is Respected.” The city awarded commendations to meritorious persons who have led efforts to promote women’s rights and realize gender equality, as well as winners of the 6th Changwon City Gender Equality Content Contest.
The awardees include ▲ Seo Hye-jung, representative of the Gyeongnam Women with Disabilities Solidarity, who, as a woman with a disability herself, was recognized for 14 years of efforts to promote the human rights of women with disabilities through securing education, cultural rights, and mobility rights, and contributing to the elimination of discrimination against the disabled and raising awareness; ▲ Jeong Seong-mi, general affairs officer of the Changwon City Women’s Organizations Council; ▲ Kim Young-nam, employment counselor at the Masan Women’s Workforce Development Center, who were commended for their contributions to expanding women’s social participation and promoting their rights; ▲ Kim Yeo-tae, CEO of Taejin Electronics, and ▲ Heo Hyuk, CEO of Goryeo Innotech, were selected as meritorious companies for gender equality for their efforts in creating work-life balance and family-friendly environments.
Additionally, under the theme “A Unique Talk Journey Searching for Gender Equality,” the event featured a gender talk concert where host Choi Kwang-gi, tenor Lim Sang-hoon sang stories of women in music, and panelist Yang Yong-jun shared stories about practicing gender equality at home, engaging with the audience.
Furthermore, the ceremony included congratulatory performances by La Luce Popera and the Changwon City Dance Company, and the winners’ works from the Changwon City Gender Equality Content Contest were exhibited in the grand theater lobby, adding a rich visual experience.
Throughout September, the city plans to hold various commemorative events to spread gender equality culture with citizens, including ▲ Changwon Women’s Human Rights Film Festival ▲ Working Changwon Women’s Art Exhibition and Talk Concert ▲ Original Paintings and Book Exhibition of General Kim Myeong-si Riding a White Horse ▲ Citizen Forum on Women-Friendly City Policy Development ▲ Gender Equality Campaigns and Education.
An Kyung-won, the 1st Deputy Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “We will strive to create a happy journey where no Changwon citizen is marginalized and everyone is respected, making Changwon safe for both men and women.”
