Naju City to Hold 'Naju Pear Promotion Exhibition' at KTX Naju Station on the 2nd of Next Month
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 31st that it will hold a promotional event for the Naju pear variety ‘Sinhwa’ at KTX Naju Station from 4 p.m. on the 2nd of next month.
The ‘Sinhwa pear,’ harvested early ahead of the Chuseok holiday, is an early-ripening pear variety characterized by its crisp flesh and refreshing texture as if rinsed with water. It has a higher sugar content (13°Bx) than the Shingo pear and can be harvested from early next month, making it suitable as a Chuseok gift pear.
This year, the planned volume of Sinhwa pears for the Chuseok collective shipment in the Naju region is about 100 tons, and they will be sold through distribution channels such as large supermarkets, NongHyup, and fruit wholesalers.
Despite the nationwide heatwave lasting over a month this year, the Naju pear, a local specialty, has maintained high sugar content and abundant yield thanks to well-established irrigation facilities and sufficient sunlight, making it perfect as a gift for the upcoming Chuseok holiday in about ten days.
At the promotional event, customers who purchase a box of Sinhwa pears on-site or promote the pears through photos and reviews on SNS will receive one additional Sinhwa pear as a gift.
The price of Sinhwa pears sold on-site ranges from 32,000 to 36,000 KRW per 5kg box, and to benefit consumers, Naju Love Gift Certificates can also be purchased on-site at a 10% discount off the face value.
An official from the Naju Agricultural Technology Center said, “This event is held to promote the new pear variety that will continue the reputation of Naju pears. We hope consumers will taste the true flavor of Sinhwa, which boasts a crisp and soft texture and rich juice, and widely promote it.”
He added, “We will continue to do our best to enable more consumers to enjoy Naju pears by distributing new varieties differentiated from existing varieties (Shingo).”
