Gwangju Seo-gu, Positive Response to Sign Language Interpretation Video Service for Hearing and Speech Impaired
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) announced on the 31st that the 'Sign Language Interpretation Video Service' is receiving great response from the hearing and speech impaired.
Since its first implementation in a Gwangju autonomous district in June 2020, the 'Sign Language Interpretation Video Service,' now in its third year of operation, allows hearing and speech impaired individuals visiting institutions such as the local administrative welfare centers to communicate in sign language with sign language interpreters at the Sign Language Interpretation Center and the responsible public officials via a video phone, enabling three-way communication.
Currently, video phones are installed with one unit each in the Civil Service Department, Disability Hope Welfare Department, Seo-gu Health Center, Welfare Benefits Department, and 18 administrative welfare centers, totaling 22 units. They are available free of charge on weekdays from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The sign language interpretation service is free to use, and the service hours are weekdays from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mr. Kim, a hearing and speech impaired resident of Hwajeong-dong, Seo-gu, said, "Since three years ago, receiving help from sign language interpreters through the sign language interpretation video phone has made it very easy as my intentions are conveyed accurately and conveniently."
