[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor' that occurred in the sea southeast of Tokyo, Japan, is expected to be upgraded to the highest typhoon intensity level, 'super typhoon,' on the morning of the 31st. The super typhoon level is strong enough to cause buildings to collapse.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), as of 3 p.m. on the 30th, Hinnamnor, moving westward at 33 km/h in the sea about 740 km east of Okinawa, Japan, will develop into a super typhoon around 3 a.m. on the 31st. At that time, the central pressure will be 915 hPa, and the maximum wind speed will be 55 m/s.
The peak intensity currently forecasted by the KMA is 910 hPa and 56 m/s as of 3 p.m. on September 1st, after which the central pressure will rise from the afternoon of the 2nd of next month, weakening to 'very strong.'
The KMA classifies typhoon intensity into weak, moderate, strong, very strong, and super typhoon based on central pressure. The super typhoon grade corresponds to a maximum wind speed of 54 m/s or higher, with power capable of causing buildings to collapse. Typhoon No. 11 Hinnamnor is expected to develop into this year's first super typhoon.
After September 3rd, when it may affect South Korea, the typhoon's intensity is expected to decrease. Whether it will directly impact the Korean Peninsula remains uncertain. Currently, all possible paths for Hinnamnor's movement are open, including China, the Korea Strait, Kyushu in Japan, or central Japan.
