[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) held the ‘Bamseom Displaced Residents’ Hometown Visit Event’ at 10 a.m. on the 27th to soothe the nostalgia of former residents of Bamseom Island.
Hosted by the Mapo Cultural Center (Director Choi Jae-hong), this hometown visit event was held for the first time in three years since COVID-19, deepening the affection of the displaced residents of Bamseom.
Bamseom was named because its shape resembles a chestnut (Bam). In 1968, it was demolished due to the development of the Han River and the construction of Yeouido, and at that time, 62 households with 443 people relocated to the Changjeon-dong area of Mapo-gu.
On this day, a total of about 70 people, including around 30 displaced residents of Bamseom, climbed Bamseom to hold a homecoming ritual and returned filled with the warmth that their hometown gave them.
On the 26th at 7 p.m., Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, attended the ‘2022 Gaksimjae Old House Music Concert’ held at Gaksimjae Sungdeokdang (Wolgye 2-dong).
Gaksimjae is Seoul City Folklore Material (Hanok) No. 16 located in Wolgye 2-dong. Utilizing the cultural value of Gaksimjae and the local atmosphere, a premium performance blending traditional and modern styles of Korean traditional music and jazz was presented.
The district set the theme of this year’s second old house music concert as ‘Harmony and Comfort’ to provide consolation and healing to residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The event proceeded in the order of Part 1 THE Gwangdae, Part 2 Saengdonggam Crew, and Part 3 Lee Hee-moon Band performances, with Korean traditional music star Park Ae-ri performing the opening and closing stages of the concert.
About 800 people, including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, members of the National Assembly, city councilors, district councilors, and other distinguished guests, attended the event.
