Customized Support with 'Temporary Modular Housing' and 'Public Rental Housing' for Flood Victims
Temporary Assembly Housing Provided Free of Charge, Extended Annually
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 26th, the government announced that it will promptly promote the installation of temporary modular housing and support for public rental housing to ensure housing stability for disaster victims who require long-term temporary housing due to housing damage caused by heavy rains.
First, based on the demand survey for disaster victims who suffered housing damage from the heavy rains, the government plans to provide temporary modular housing free of charge (renewable annually) to those who wish to live in modular housing and where installation is possible, allowing them to continue living in their local area even during housing restoration.
In urban areas such as Seoul, where multi-family residential facilities are densely packed and securing land is difficult, making the installation of temporary modular housing challenging, the government plans to provide public rental housing as emergency support housing to ensure there is no gap in housing support policies.
According to the demand survey conducted so far in the affected areas, the demand for temporary modular housing is 19 units (12 units in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and 7 units in Buyeo, Chungnam Province), with occupancy planned after the production and installation of the temporary modular housing are completed. Rental housing occupancy will proceed sequentially once vacancies are confirmed and cleaning is completed. Residents of temporary modular housing will also receive living support services such as reductions in electricity and water/sewerage charges.
Meanwhile, before moving into temporary modular housing or public rental housing, the government has been focusing on supporting independent living spaces such as public and private lodging facilities or officetels to minimize the inconvenience caused by long-term evacuation life, ensure the convenience of disaster victims, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
