Hyundai Motor's First Domestic Electric Vehicle-Only Factory to Be Built at Ulsan Driving Test Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 25th that it has finalized plans to build its first dedicated electric vehicle factory on the site of the driving test track within the Ulsan plant.
The company held a briefing session including this information with the labor union on the same day. Earlier, during this year's wage negotiations, the labor and management had reached a "special agreement on future domestic plant investments." The agreement included plans to build a new electric vehicle factory within the Ulsan plant and to gradually rebuild the existing aging factories.
The company explained that the driving test track site was considered the optimal location "taking into account the implementation of a new factory layout applying new construction methods."
Following this decision, the current driving test track, solar power facilities, and others will be relocated to other sites within the plant. Construction is planned to begin next year, with the goal of establishing mass production by 2025.
Hyundai Motor's Ulsan plant is the largest complete vehicle production base in Korea, currently producing dedicated electric vehicles such as the Ioniq 5, as well as the Kona EV and Genesis electric vehicles. The sedan-type electric vehicle Ioniq 6, scheduled for release next month, is being produced at the Asan plant.
