Seongnam City Announces 20 Essential Items Twice Weekly for Chuseok...Cracks Down on Unfair Practices
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is implementing price stabilization measures until the 12th of next month to curb the rising 'grocery basket prices' during the Chuseok holiday season.
Seongnam City will monitor the price trends of 20 essential items including apples, pears, chicken, croaker, pollock, and chestnuts, and publish the information twice a week on the price information section of the Seongnam City website so that citizens can compare prices when shopping.
To this end, 51 price monitoring agents from Seongnam City will visit 14 locations such as department stores and traditional markets in the area to investigate the prices of the target items and assess the on-site situation.
Additionally, three inspection teams consisting of 14 members from relevant city departments, consumer groups, and livestock product inspectors will monitor unfair trade practices.
They will check for violations such as failure to comply with price display regulations, false labeling of the origin of agricultural and livestock products, overcharging beyond displayed prices, hoarding, and collusion while visiting traditional markets and large retail stores.
If unfair trade practices are detected, corrective actions will be taken on-site depending on the severity, fines will be imposed, and the Fair Trade Commission will be notified.
