[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Gun-chan] A middle school student who threatened a convenience store employee for refusing to sell him alcohol and assaulted the store owner has been apprehended by the police.
The Wonju Police Station in Gangwon announced on the 24th that they have detained and are investigating a 15-year-old boy identified as A on charges of injury and obstruction of business.
A is accused of threatening an employee who refused to sell him alcohol at a convenience store in Myeongnyun-dong, Wonju City, around 1:30 a.m. on the 22nd, and assaulting the store owner who tried to intervene.
The store owner reportedly sustained serious injuries to the eyes and face, requiring eight weeks of medical treatment.
After receiving the store owner's report, the police identified A's personal information at the scene and sent him home.
The next day, A returned to the convenience store and caused a disturbance by demanding the deletion of the CCTV footage. The police, who responded to the report, arrested A on the spot.
According to the police, A mocked them, claiming he was a "chokbeopsonyeon" (a legal term for a juvenile not subject to criminal punishment) and therefore would not face criminal charges.
However, the investigation revealed that A is not classified as a chokbeopsonyeon, as he is over 10 years old but under 14 years old after his birthday this year.
