The 68th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival Opens on the 25th in Yongin... 10,302 Participants
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The 68th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival will be held for three days from the 25th to the 27th of this month throughout Yongin City, the global semiconductor hub.
This is the first time in three years since the 65th event held in Ansan City in 2019. The 66th (Goyang) and 67th (Paju) events were canceled due to COVID-19.
The opening ceremony will take place on the 25th at 6:30 PM at Yongin Mir Stadium, attended by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Chairman Yeom Jong-hyun, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Lee Young-bong, Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, along with heads of 31 cities and counties, members of the National Assembly, provincial assembly members, heads of sports organizations in Gyeonggi, and residents.
This year, a total of 10,302 participants, including 7,076 athletes and 3,226 officials from 31 cities and counties in the province, will compete in 25 events such as athletics, swimming, and soccer, divided into Division 1 and Division 2.
Notably, this year's event is named "The 68th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival 2022 Yongin," reflecting the opinions of cities and counties that including the host city and year in the event name helps with promotion.
The province, together with Yongin City, has established COVID-19 prevention guidelines and distributed them to cities, counties, and sports organizations to ensure thorough preparation for the safety of this event.
According to the guidelines, access of athletes and spectators will be strictly controlled at each venue, and each venue will be disinfected twice daily.
Additionally, if anyone entering the venue has a fever, they will immediately undergo self-diagnosis at a temporary isolation area set up outside the venue to determine whether they can enter.
