On that day, he met with Lee Ki-il, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, to discuss expanding the quota for medical school admissions, which is the starting point for establishing the medical school, and requested active support to resolve major issues such as building consensus within the medical community.
Gyeongbuk Province had visited the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s working department in June to establish a research-oriented medical school at POSTECH.
Since then, they have been making every effort through various means, including holding meetings with the Pohang medical community, to lead consultations with the local medical association.
Additionally, emphasizing that physician-scientists are industrial physicians for realizing Korea’s bio-national security, they are preparing practical alternatives to persuade the medical association.
Deputy Governor Lee Dal-hee stated, “The leap to a global bio-health hub nation through the training of physician-scientists is a key task of the new government,” and added, “We will create a path to realize this through the establishment of a research-oriented medical school at POSTECH.”
