Even If You Sign Now, Delivery by Early Next Year Is Difficult... 37,000 Orders on the First Day for Ioniq 6
Hyundai Ioniq 6 Pre-Order Sets Domestic Record on First Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 23rd that it received 37,446 pre-orders on the first day for its dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 6. This is the highest record among domestic finished car models.
The Ioniq 6 is Hyundai's first sedan model applying the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP, and pre-orders began from the afternoon of the previous day. It set a new record for the most pre-orders in just over half a day. Previously, the highest number of pre-orders among domestic finished cars was for the company's Ioniq 5, which received 23,760 orders on the first day.
The successor electric vehicle released after a year and a half set a new record with about 14,000 more pre-orders. Various events will be held before the official launch next month to allow customers to experience the vehicle's features. The company explained, "This is the result of meeting customer expectations as a game changer in the upcoming electrification era."
The new car achieves world-class electric consumption efficiency of 6.2 km per kWh. The driving range on a single charge reaches 524 km (based on 18-inch wheels, Long Range 2WD). The aerodynamic drag coefficient is 0.21, the lowest among Hyundai's models to date. This is the reason it has received favorable reviews from major media outlets in the US and Europe. The vehicle price starts at 52 million KRW for the Standard model (after electric vehicle tax benefits), and from 52.6 million KRW for the Long Range model.
The company plans to sell 12,000 units mainly in the domestic market this year. From next year, it will export to some regions in Europe as well, setting a sales target of about 50,000 units domestically and internationally. Even if orders are placed immediately, it will be difficult to receive the vehicle this year or in the first half of next year.
