LG HelloVision announced on the 21st that it will provide cable TV services for vulnerable children in the Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongnam regions. By offering Hello TV and ‘U+ Idleulnara’ to local child care welfare facilities, it aims to fill the care gap for vulnerable children and help reduce information and learning disparities.
The learning gap among vulnerable children has deepened due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Especially with the increase in non-face-to-face education, vulnerable children who have difficulty securing digital devices and affording private education expenses are unable to actively participate in online learning.
In response, LG HelloVision signed a business agreement with the international child rights NGO Save the Children on the 19th at Save the Children headquarters located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, to jointly support the Hello TV service project. Hello TV installation and usage fees will be provided free of charge for two years at four ‘Dahamtge Dolbom Centers’ and three ‘Community Child Centers’ located in Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongnam, allowing children to use Idleulnara at these child care welfare facilities. Additionally, cable TV services (live channels and VOD) will be provided to enable viewing of the latest content, and some welfare facilities will also receive TV sets.
Children using the welfare facilities will have access to high-quality content through Hello TV Idleulnara. They can freely watch educational and cultural content such as ▲TV reading books for reading and learning, English kindergarten ▲Nuri classroom for play and experience ▲Disney Channel, among others. In particular, Idleulnara offers age-specific learning and recommends content based on the child’s interests entered in their profile, allowing them to enjoy a variety of content in a customized format.
To mark the summer vacation, cultural and educational programs will also be operated. These programs are designed as experiential and educational formats considering children who spend a lot of time in online spaces such as YouTube and Facebook due to COVID-19. To provide emotional stability for children easily exposed to harmful content such as fake news and cyberbullying, cultural experiences like pottery workshops and garden activities will be promoted, along with media literacy education to help acquire accurate media information.
Jung Tae-young, President of Save the Children, said, “All children have the right to equal education, but for vulnerable children, the learning imbalance has worsened due to COVID-19,” and added, “We thank LG HelloVision for sponsoring cable TV service support so that children can nurture their dreams and grow up healthily.”
