60s Found Dead While Under Police Investigation for 'Miryang Wildfire'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] A man in his 60s who was under police investigation in connection with the large-scale wildfire in Miryang, Gyeongnam, which occurred last May, was found dead.
According to the Miryang Police Station on the 20th, a man in his 60s, Mr. A, was found dead on a hill in Miryang City on the 18th. The police discovered Mr. A deceased during a search following a missing person report filed by his family. The hill where Mr. A was found is the site where the large wildfire broke out on May 31.
At that time, it was estimated that about 763 hectares of forest, equivalent to more than 1,000 soccer fields, were burned by the wildfire. The fire was extinguished on June 3, four days after it started.
Mr. A had been under police investigation since June on suspicion of arson related to the wildfire.
