Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. Donates 20 Million KRW for Housing Environment Improvement to Low-Income Disabled Families
Signboard Ceremony Held on the 19th... Yeosu City Provides Safe Homes through Public-Private Partnership since 2013
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has completed the 20th "Hope House" for low-income welfare crisis households in collaboration with Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. (Factory Manager Choi Woo-young) and held a plaque ceremony on the 19th.
About 30 people attended the plaque ceremony, including Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu, Na Yong-cheol, Executive Director of Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd., Kim Jong-jin, Director of Ssangbong General Social Welfare Center, and Lee Seok-sun, Chairman of the Hallyeo-dong Community Security Council.
Yeosu City's "Hope House" is a public-private partnership project that provides a comfortable and safe new home to low-income welfare crisis households living in poor housing conditions by linking with private sponsors.
Since its inception in 2013, it has received sponsorships totaling about 290 million won and has created 20 Hope Houses to date.
The 20th Hope House in Hallyeo-dong is home to a family of three, including a person with severe disabilities and an elderly mother, all of whom are unable to work due to disabilities and illnesses.
After the head of the household, the father, passed away six years ago, no one took care of the house, causing mold to grow throughout the house due to rooftop leaks, and the bathroom and sink were old, urgently requiring improvements in the living environment.
In particular, all family members suffered from paranoid symptoms with poor hygiene awareness, piling up trash in every room, causing foul odors and various insects to inhabit during the hot summer, threatening their health.
Upon hearing about their difficult situation, Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. generously donated 20 million won for housing environment improvements, and the public and private sectors joined forces to provide a safe new home.
Ssangbong General Social Welfare Center and Cheongwon Construction carried out comprehensive housing renovations, including rooftop waterproofing, bathroom remodeling, kitchen sink replacement, plumbing work, wallpaper and flooring replacement, and repair of the collapsed exterior walls.
At the plaque ceremony, Na Young-cheol, Executive Director of Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd., said, "I am truly happy to provide a clean and safe home to a family in need of help," and added, "We will strive to be a reliable sponsor who supports marginalized neighbors in the local community."
Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, "I thank the executives and employees of Oil Hub Korea Yeosu Co., Ltd. for gifting the 20th Hope House," and added, "For neighbors in difficulty, it can be more than just a living space; it can be hope for life. Through public-private cooperation, we will build more Hope Houses and create a happy Yeosu where everyone lives well together."
Yeosu City plans to provide counseling through the Public Health Center Mental Health Welfare Center for the residents of the 20th Hope House and continue ongoing follow-up management centered on the community center, including disability activity support services and cleaning support in connection with the welfare center.
