[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 17th that it will provide special traffic safety education to 581 mandatory education recipients who received special reductions in administrative penalties for driver's licenses in celebration of this year's Liberation Day.
The recipients must complete a 6-hour special traffic safety education (law compliance education) conducted by the Korea Road Traffic Authority by the 15th of next month. A fine of 100,000 KRW will be imposed if the education is not completed. Reservations for the education can be made through the Korea Road Traffic Authority Safe Driving Integrated Civil Service website. Detailed guidance is available at the Customer Support Center.
Recipients will be notified individually by mail. Eligibility can be confirmed through the Police Agency's Traffic Civil Service 24 after identity verification. It is also possible to confirm by calling the Police Civil Service Call Center with a mobile phone registered under the recipient's name or by visiting the police station's traffic civil service office in person.
The special reduction recipients include those who, from November 1 of last year to June 30 of this year, have ▲traffic law violations ▲points due to traffic accidents, ▲administrative penalties such as suspension or cancellation, or ▲are within the license test restriction period. Serious violations such as drunk driving, refusal to take a breathalyzer test, hit-and-run, reckless or retaliatory driving, assault on police officers, and 14 other major violations are excluded from the special reduction.

An official from the Authority stated, "We have sent education notification so that the special reduction recipients can promptly reacquire their driver's licenses and return to their livelihoods," adding, "We plan to expand and operate the education schedule."
