Joo Ho-young "Today, Emergency Committee Personnel Announcement... Focus on Early Party Stabilization and Trust Recovery"
[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Kwon Hyun-ji] Joo Ho-young, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, announced on the 16th that he would reveal the committee appointments focusing on the party's early stabilization and restoration of trust.
Chairman Joo said in a meeting with reporters at the National Assembly that morning, "I have requested Seo Byung-soo, the National Committee Chairman, to convene the Standing National Committee for the approval of the Emergency Response Committee members."
He added, "After appointing the Emergency Response Committee members, they must be approved by the Standing National Committee," and "I was informed that Chairman Seo is looking into the matter and will try to hold it this afternoon if possible."
He also said, "I requested the floor leader to convene a video meeting of lawmakers about 30 minutes before the Standing National Committee meeting so that the lawmakers can be informed in advance." Since the Standing National Committee is scheduled for around 3 p.m., the video meeting is expected to take place around 2:30 p.m.
When asked about the criteria for approving the Emergency Response Committee members, Chairman Joo said, "We composed the committee with people who can stabilize the party early and restore trust as much as possible," adding, "We sufficiently considered representativeness, but it was somewhat difficult to represent many areas with only six members."
Although there were reports that the appointment of the Emergency Response Committee members was facing difficulties, Chairman Joo dismissed them, saying, "I was disappointed by the many false reports."
However, since the result of the injunction to suspend the effectiveness of the Emergency Response Committee filed by former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok is expected to be announced as early as the 17th, concerns have arisen that the committee might collapse shortly after its launch depending on the outcome. Regarding this, Chairman Joo said, "That procedure will proceed as it is, so we will consider the result separately. If approved today, since the Supreme Council or Emergency Response Committee usually meets on Mondays and Thursdays, we plan to hold the first Emergency Response Committee meeting the day after tomorrow."
Since his press conference on the 13th, former leader Lee has been continuously appearing on radio and YouTube media, launching a fierce attack on the party and President Yoon Seok-yeol, continuing his 'outside-the-party battle.' Chairman Joo said, "It is very unfortunate," and added, "I believe that Leader Lee also loves the party and its members very much, so I ask him to carefully consider how this is perceived by party members and the public."
