Gwangju Seo-gu Conducts Safety Inspections in Preparation for Heavy Rainfall
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Seo-gu District Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Yi-gang) announced on the 12th that it conducted a safety inspection of vulnerable areas to heavy rain on the 10th in preparation for the expected new front line landing around Liberation Day.
Seo-gu recently held a countermeasure meeting chaired by the Deputy District Mayor to review disaster response plans for disaster-prone areas during the summer season within the district.
Additionally, on-site inspections were conducted at three locations, including the underground parking lot beneath Yangdong Covered Market, which is a high-risk area for casualties, to check the condition of drainage channels, malfunction of vehicle control systems, and the placement of flood control materials.
Disaster-related departments carried out emergency safety inspections on relevant facilities and disaster-prone areas to verify any operational abnormalities and the management status of drainage channels. For urgent safety measures, the local administrative welfare centers also patrolled their jurisdictions to remove trash and covers from rainwater inlets.
Seo-gu plans to conduct frequent patrol inspections and implement situation assessment meetings and phased emergency operations through weather monitoring.
A Seo-gu official stated, “We will do our best in surveillance activities and proactive responses to prepare for heavy rains during the summer season.”
