New 'Advanced Field Internship Visa' Established... Ministry of Justice to Attract Foreign University Students Majoring in Semiconductors and Other Fields
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The government will allow domestic internship activities for outstanding overseas talents majoring in advanced fields. On the 5th, the Ministry of Justice announced that it will newly introduce the 'Advanced Field Internship Visa' (D-10-3) for students from outstanding overseas universities starting on the 8th.
The issuance targets for the Advanced Field Internship Visa include current students and graduates within three years from advanced technology fields at universities ranked among the top 200 worldwide by the American news magazine Time, or within the top 500 in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings, a global university evaluation institution in the UK.
Upon issuance, students can work at domestic listed companies equipped with research facilities in advanced technology fields such as ▲semiconductors ▲information technology (IT) ▲technology management ▲nano ▲digital electronics ▲bio, or government-funded research institutes in the science and technology sector. To facilitate the transition from internship activities to domestic employment, the visa duration can be extended, and special privileges are provided when changing to employment or start-up visas.
However, to prevent infringement on domestic youth jobs, companies can hire overseas university interns within 20% of their total employment. Considering the difficulty in securing personnel for small and venture companies, this restriction does not apply to companies within three years of establishment.
