'Business Patriotism · Talent First · Pursuit of Rationality'
These are the management philosophies established by the late founder of Samsung Group, Lee Byungchul. Samsung Group has consistently carried out corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, mainly through its four foundations. Among them, the Welfare Foundation, led by Chairwoman Seohyun Lee, is regarded as the most prominent. Recently, she has also taken on the role of advisor to the CSR Research Office at Samsung Global Research (formerly Samsung Economic Research Institute), the group's think tank, drawing significant attention.
According to industry sources on August 7, Chairwoman Lee was appointed last month as an advisor to the CSR Research Office at Samsung Global Research. She will be responsible for overseeing the organization that develops CSR implementation strategies, business development, and research on global trends.
Samsung Group has maintained steady CSR activities, and Chairwoman Lee is particularly recognized for her contributions to revitalizing the "Samsung Dream Class," an academic support program for middle school students from low-income families. Based on her experience managing such foundations, she is expected to provide consulting on CSR strategies.
Chairwoman Lee has operated childcare programs and led a variety of social contribution activities for underprivileged youth and local communities. This dual role as advisor is seen by industry insiders as a sign that Samsung Group will further expand its social contribution activities in the future. Her husband, Jaeyoul Kim, also works at Samsung Global Research as Head of Global Strategy and Sports Marketing Research. In June, he was elected as the first non-European president in the 130-year history of the International Skating Union (ISU).
Samsung Group has upheld its corporate mission of "creating profits and returning them to society." In addition to the Samsung Dream Class, it operates programs such as the Samsung Youth Software Academy (SAFFY), which provides work experience opportunities for young people. The Samsung Ho-Am Prize, awarded by the Ho-Am Foundation to individuals who have made significant contributions in five fields-science, engineering, medicine, the arts, and social contribution-is another notable initiative.
