Gochang-gun Operates 'Dedicated Promotion Period for Separate Disposal of Transparent PET Bottles'

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 5th that it will operate a ‘Focused Promotion Period for Separate Disposal of Transparent PET Bottles’ until the 15th of next month to establish separate disposal of transparent PET bottles during the summer vacation season.

When transparent PET bottles are separately disposed of, they are reborn as high-quality recycled raw materials and can be recycled into clothing, bags, shoes, and PET bottles.

The method for separate disposal of transparent PET bottles is to empty the contents cleanly, remove the label, then, if possible, crush the bottle, close the cap, and dispose of it in a dedicated transparent PET bottle collection box or transparent bag.

Although separate disposal of transparent PET bottles was fully mandated at the end of last year, due to lack of awareness of the system and inconvenience of label removal, they are still being disposed of mixed with other plastics.

During the focused promotion period, Gochang-gun plans to inform residents through various channels such as electronic billboards within the county, the official website, bulletin boards in apartment complexes, banners, and village chief meetings.

Currently, four unmanned collection machines for transparent PET bottles and cans are operated [2 at Wolgok Neighborhood Park (in front of Jeil Apartment), 2 at Gochang-eup Indoor Gymnasium] to continuously encourage separate disposal of transparent PET bottles.

A county official said, “If separate disposal of transparent PET bottles is activated, it can contribute to establishing a high-quality plastic recycling system and revitalizing a resource-circulating society,” and added, “We ask for the active participation of all residents.”
