President Yoon's approval rating drops 3.9%p to 32.1%... 52.9% hold President Yoon responsible for ruling party crisis
Decline in Support Rates for the People Power Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] A poll has revealed a decline in President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating during his vacation. The ruling party, the People Power Party, also showed a concurrent downward trend in support.
According to a poll conducted by Media Tomato on behalf of News Tomato from the 1st to the 3rd, surveying 1,315 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, President Yoon's positive evaluation of his state affairs management was 32.1% (16.8% very well, 15.3% somewhat well), while negative evaluation was 65.8% (9.9% somewhat poorly, 55.9% very poorly).
In last week's survey, those who positively evaluated President Yoon's state affairs management were 36.0% (26.3% well, 9.7% somewhat well), and those who evaluated negatively were 62.0% (6.1% somewhat poorly, 55.9% poorly). Positive evaluation dropped by 3.9%, while negative evaluation increased by 3.8%.
Regarding the government's proposed education system reform to lower the elementary school entrance age from 6 to 5 years old, opposition stood at 75.3%, overwhelmingly surpassing the 20.2% in favor.
Negative evaluations of the current government's COVID-19 quarantine measures also outnumbered positive ones, with 60.5% negative versus 35.2% positive.
When asked about responsibility for the recent crisis in the ruling party, 52.9% responded that President Yoon was responsible. Public opinion attributing responsibility to Kwon Seong-dong, acting party leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, and Yoon's close associates (Yoonhaekgwan) was 19.4%, while 18.6% held Lee Jun-seok, the People Power Party leader, responsible.

The ruling party's support rate also declined. In party support, the Democratic Party recorded 48.6%, while the People Power Party stood at 33.9%. Compared to last week, the Democratic Party rose by 0.6 percentage points, whereas the People Power Party fell by 2.5 percentage points.
