Yongin City to Enact Nation's First 'Semiconductor Industry Promotion and Support Ordinance'
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province has taken steps to establish an institutional foundation for fostering and supporting the semiconductor industry.
On the 4th, Yongin City announced that it is pushing forward with the enactment of the "Semiconductor Industry Fostering and Support Ordinance" (tentative name), the first of its kind among basic local governments nationwide.
Once the ordinance is enacted, it will provide a basis for supporting semiconductor companies in technology development and market expansion, promoting the creation of integrated complexes, and nurturing specialized personnel.
The ordinance will include provisions such as ▲establishing a comprehensive plan for fostering the semiconductor industry ▲support measures for technology development, workforce training, and integrated complex creation ▲operation of the Yongin City Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Enhancement Committee ▲and building a cooperation system among industry, academia, research, and government.
According to the ordinance, the city plans to systematically foster the semiconductor industry by establishing and implementing a four-year "Comprehensive Plan for Semiconductor Industry Fostering" and annual plans, preparing a detailed roadmap for project implementation.
The Yongin City Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Enhancement Committee, established to strengthen the expertise of the semiconductor industry, will be composed of businesspeople, professors, and experts from related fields and will be responsible for formulating fostering plans and providing advice.
In particular, technology development and workforce training will be promoted through the cooperation system among industry, academia, research, and government.
The city plans to complete related administrative procedures and legislative notice by October and submit the enactment proposal to the Yongin City Council in November.
