Namwon-si, Fully Committed to Preventing Livestock Infectious Diseases Through Quarantine Measures

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province, is making every effort to prevent and control livestock infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, AI (avian influenza), and ASF (African swine fever).

According to the city on the 3rd, disinfection and quarantine facility inspections, education, and renovation of key disinfection facilities will be carried out by next month for poultry and pig farms in the jurisdiction.

For the prevention of avian influenza, following the first quarantine status inspection conducted on about 200 poultry farms in the area, a second inspection will be conducted by next month to strengthen guidance and verification of compliance with basic quarantine rules such as installation of quarantine facilities including vehicle disinfection facilities, anterooms, and quarantine rooms, changing quarantine suits, and changing boots.

To block African swine fever, the city is continuously conducting on-site inspections and briefing sessions to ensure that enhanced quarantine facilities such as quarantine rooms, anterooms, and internal fences are fully installed at pig farms by next month.

To reinforce the function of Namwon City's key disinfection facility (located in Josan-dong), which operates year-round, the city has secured a budget of 100 million KRW to replace and strengthen the disinfection spray devices and to complete the linkage registration of disinfection vehicles with the national livestock quarantine system by next month, before the start of the special quarantine measures.

A city official said, "Although livestock farmers are going through a difficult time due to rising feed and raw material costs, we ask for active cooperation in installing quarantine facilities and complying with basic quarantine rules to prevent livestock infectious diseases."
