Private Building Support Applications Continue This Year... Grassroots Eco-Friendly Energy Self-Reliance Foundation 'Smooth Sailing'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City, is receiving great response for its ‘Renewable Energy Convergence Support Project’ targeting private buildings.
According to Buk-gu on the 3rd, since 2021, through selection in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s ‘Renewable Energy Convergence Support Public Contest Project,’ it has been promoting a support project for installing renewable energy sources such as solar power and solar heat in private houses and buildings.
In the first year of the project in 2021, targeting rural areas where energy supply such as city gas was difficult, support for facilities including solar power, solar heat, and fuel cells was 99% completed for 482 locations.
This year, the project scope is being gradually expanded to urban areas, targeting 403 private buildings, and currently, installation has been completed in 299 locations, showing a progress rate of 74%.
Accordingly, as this project gains word-of-mouth, applications for participation in next year’s project are also increasing, a Buk-gu office official explained.
Mayor Moon In said, “Carbon neutrality and responding to the environmental crisis are global challenges,” adding, “Through this project, the atmosphere for establishing a grassroots energy self-reliance foundation at the village level is spreading, and it will serve as a catalyst for creating a low-carbon green growth city.”
Meanwhile, Buk-gu plans to realize a ‘Great Transition to Green’ through initiatives such as ‘Green Village Making,’ ‘Training Carbon Neutral Village Leaders,’ ‘Energy Efficiency Improvement of Public Buildings,’ ‘Green Remodeling of Permanent Rental Housing,’ and ‘Restoration of Urban Ecological Axis’ during the 8th local government term.
