Yeonggwang-gun Accepts Applications for 'Resident Participatory Budget Projects' Until the 31st
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ijeonseong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jong-man) announced on the 2nd that it is accepting applications for the 'Resident Participatory Budget Project' to reflect residents' opinions in the budget formulation process, including county policy projects and local issues, ahead of next year's budget formulation until the 31st.
Until now, the county has operated a resident participatory budget system focused on county policy projects, but due to low resident interest and a preference for resident petition projects, the county has expanded the system beyond county policy projects to include eup/myeon local projects within a total limit of 2 billion KRW (distributed by eup/myeon) to revitalize the practical resident participatory budget system, a campaign pledge of Governor Kang Jong-man in the 8th local government.
The decision on eup/myeon local projects is also made by the 'Eup/Myeon Resident Participatory Budget Regional Meeting' independently organized by each eup/myeon, which reviews and deliberates the necessity and validity of the projects, selects the projects, and submits them to the county to be reflected in next year's budget.
Participation methods include submitting through the county website (Information Disclosure → Budget and Settlement Information Disclosure → Resident Participatory Budget), or downloading the application form and submitting it to the Budget Team of the Planning and Budget Office at the county office or to each eup/myeon office (General Affairs Team).
Earlier, from April to June, the county operated a touring resident participatory budget school in eup/myeon areas and conducted various promotions through YouTube, SNS, etc., to enhance understanding of the participatory budget system and encourage active resident participation.
A county official said, "With the new start of the 8th local government, we ask for the residents' great interest and active participation in the resident participatory budget system, where residents become the main agents of administration and directly participate in the budget formulation process."
