Two Additional BA.2.75 Infections Confirmed... Arrivals from India (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] Two additional cases of the BA.2.75 variant have been confirmed in South Korea.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 2nd at midnight that the number of BA.2.75 variant infections in the country has increased by two, bringing the total to nine. Both additional confirmed cases were imported from India, and all showed mild symptoms, receiving home treatment before being released from isolation.
Patient A, confirmed on the 22nd of last month, is a person in their 30s residing in Gyeongbuk and has completed the third dose of vaccination. Symptoms appeared on the 21st, and after entering the country on the 22nd, the patient was confirmed positive on the same day.
The other confirmed case, Patient B, is a person in their 50s staying in Jeonnam. Patient B also completed the third dose of vaccination and was confirmed positive on the 24th without symptoms after entering the country on the 23rd.

BA.2.75 is a subvariant of Omicron first discovered in India in May of this year. Compared to BA.2, it has eight additional mutations in the spike gene, allowing it to bind more effectively to cells and strongly evade antibodies formed by vaccination or infection.
