Gwangju Nam-gu Supports Purchase Cost for Electric Bicycles in Green City Initiative
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is promoting a project to support the purchase cost of electric bicycles to create an eco-friendly green city and activate the use of electric bicycles.
On the 2nd, Nam-gu announced, "To enable electric bicycles to be used as a daily transportation means such as commuting, we will invest 20 million KRW in this year's project budget and carry out a subsidy support project for electric bicycle purchases until the related budget is exhausted."
The electric bicycles eligible for support are bicycles that meet the safety requirements set by the government according to the Act on the Promotion of Bicycle Use.
They are bicycles with a PAS (Pedal Assist System) method that detects pedaling to operate the motor, where the motor does not operate when moving at speeds above 25 km/h, and the total weight of the bicycle is less than 30 kg.
However, throttle-type bicycles that operate 100% by electric power without pedaling, and those with both throttle and PAS, are classified as motorized bicycles or personal mobility devices and are excluded from support.
The subsidy amount is up to 300,000 KRW per electric bicycle according to the "Nam-gu Ordinance on the Promotion of Bicycle Use."
Eligible applicants are residents who have been registered in Nam-gu for more than two years as of August 1 and are aged 19 or older (born on or before August 1, 2003). They must purchase and operate the electric bicycle from a local bicycle store to receive the subsidy.
Residents wishing to receive the subsidy can check the announcement on the Nam-gu Office website, then click on "Participation World" on the homepage, access the electric bicycle purchase subsidy support section, and submit an application form containing personal information online by the 16th.
Nam-gu will select 66 winners through an electronic lottery on the 18th and 10 additional candidates as backups in case of mid-term withdrawals among the winners. To increase transparency in the selection process, only the first six applicants will be allowed to observe the lottery.
