Yeosu Coast Guard, 7 Fishing Boats Moored at Sinbuk Port Drift with Barges
7 Fishing Boats Adrift After Mooring Lines Break at Yeosu Sinbuk Port
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu Maritime Police Station (Chief Park Je-su) announced on the 2nd that seven fishing boats seeking shelter due to bad weather at Yeosu Sinbuk Port broke loose from their floating dock mooring lines and drifted together, but were safely moved to a secure location after the maritime police were dispatched.
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, at around 8:36 PM yesterday (the 2nd), a report was received that seven fishing boats were drifting along with a floating dock at the mooring site of Sinbuk Port in Yeosu City, appearing to be in danger.
Upon receiving the report, Yeosu Maritime Police dispatched a coastal rescue boat from the substation and confirmed that seven small fishing boats (1 to 3 tons) were drifting with the floating dock, colliding with a pier. The 3-ton fishing boat A and the 1-ton fishing boat B were caught under the pier.
With the high tide approaching in about an hour, Yeosu Maritime Police urgently contacted the boat owners, and the captains of each vessel arrived and moved the boats to a safe location.
Due to the drifting, fishing boats A and B were caught under the pier, causing damage to the house parts of the vessels, but fortunately, the other boats were unharmed.
The fishing boats had moved to the new port floating dock to seek shelter from the typhoon and were moored there. It is believed that the floating dock mooring line broke, causing the boats to drift along with the dock.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, “Due to bad weather, when mooring at other locations, boat owners should conduct frequent patrols and inspections to prevent safety accidents and exercise special caution.”
