This special lecture was organized as a time to share the tourism conditions and major projects of local governments, with the Gyeongbuk Cultural Tourism Corporation, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, inviting Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang as the first instructor among basic local government heads in Gyeongbuk Province.
On that day, Mayor Lee introduced the strengths of Pohang as a marine cultural tourism city newly attracting attention as a tourist destination, including its marine resources and cultural spirit, along with attractive elements unique to Pohang that the MZ generation focuses on, analyzed through big data, receiving great response from the employees of the Gyeongbuk Cultural Tourism Corporation.
Since the launch of the 8th civil administration, aiming to become a "downtown stay-type marine tourism city" connecting citizens' lives and tourism, he explained the major upcoming projects being promoted to respond to new tourism trends, such as the construction of the East Sea Rim Convention Center, the creation of the Homigot Peninsula National Marine Garden, and the attraction of luxury hotels, highlighting Pohang tourism's global potential.
Mayor Lee emphasized that in the recent SNS era, exposure to big-hit cultural media such as "When the Camellia Blooms" and "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" directly leads to tourism, and requested the Gyeongbuk Cultural Tourism Corporation to add planning power and detail from a wide-area perspective for a leap forward into a complex cultural consumption site where tourists can stay, rather than a one-dimensional tourist spot.
