Hamyang-gun, Shingles Vaccination for Basic Livelihood Recipients Aged 65 and Over
Support for Recipients Without Vaccination History
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, provided free shingles vaccinations for elderly basic livelihood security recipients aged 65 and over.
Shingles is a disease caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, which lies dormant in the dorsal root ganglia and reactivates when immunity weakens. The incidence increases with age, being 8 to 10 times higher in those aged 65 and over compared to younger age groups.
Eligible recipients are basic livelihood security recipients aged 65 and over with residency in Hamyang-gun this year. They can receive the vaccination by bringing their ID on the day of vaccination and visiting the Hamyang-gun Public Health Center or health branch office.
