According to major foreign media, the Philippine state broadcaster PTV announced the death of former President Ramos. Senator Bong Revilla also confirmed the death in a statement.
Former President Ramos served in the Philippines from 1992 to 1998. He is regarded as a leader who contributed to steady growth and peace. During his administration, he opened up the economy and abolished regulations. The Philippines achieved a high economic growth rate.
In 1986, together with Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile, he opposed the 20-year dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos. He contributed to installing Corazon Aquino as president. Ramos, who served as the chief of police under the Marcos dictatorship and led the suppression of dissidents, became a hero of democracy after breaking away from Marcos.
During President Aquino's administration, he served as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Secretary of National Defense, playing a key role in suppressing seven coup attempts. With Aquino's support, he ran for president and was elected. He is the first Protestant president in the Philippines, where nearly 80% of the population is Catholic.

Born on March 18, 1928, as the son of former Foreign Minister Narciso Ramos, he graduated from the United States Military Academy and earned a master's degree in architectural engineering from the University of Illinois in the United States. After returning home, he joined the Philippine military and participated in the Korean War. He served as a platoon leader of the 20th Battalion Reconnaissance Company of the Philippine Army. In May 1952, he distinguished himself in a battle against Chinese Communist forces at 'Eerie' Hill in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, earning a unit commendation from then-President Syngman Rhee.
