President Biden Tests Positive for COVID-19 Again Three Days After Ending Isolation
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] U.S. President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 again and entered isolation just three days after ending his previous quarantine.
According to Bloomberg News and others, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, President Biden's physician, stated in a memo on the 30th (local time) that "President Biden tested positive for COVID-19 in a test conducted this morning," explaining that "this is a rebound case observed in some patients treated with Paxlovid."
President Biden was diagnosed with COVID-19 on the 21st and had been undergoing Paxlovid treatment while in isolation. He completed a five-day isolation period according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines on the 27th and tested negative twice, after which his isolation was lifted and he delivered a public address.
After testing positive again, President Biden posted on Twitter, "I have tested positive for COVID-19 again today," adding, "This occurs in a small number of people, and although I currently have no symptoms, I will enter isolation for everyone's safety." He also added, "I am still working and will be back soon."
Dr. O'Connor explained, "President Biden is asymptomatic and in very good condition," adding, "No additional treatment is necessary in this case, and we will continue close monitoring."
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also confirmed on Twitter, stating, "The President is asymptomatic and in good condition," and added, "He is working from isolation to protect others."
Due to President Biden's reinfection, his scheduled visits to Wilmington on the 31st and Michigan on the 2nd of next month have been canceled. First Lady Jill Biden, who was also scheduled to accompany him to Wilmington, will not be attending as President Biden has re-entered isolation.
