Suwon City Forms Petition Review Committee... Promotes Citizen Damage Relief and More
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has formed a 'Petition Review Committee' and appointed its members.
On the 29th, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun presented appointment letters to five committee members at the city hall situation room. The term of office is two years.
The Suwon Petition Review Committee consists of five appointed members and two ex officio members (the Director of Suwon City Planning and Coordination Office and the Director of Urban Policy Office).
According to the enforcement of the revised 'Petition Act' in December last year, each local government is required to establish and operate a review committee to strengthen the investigation and review procedures for petitions.
Under the revised Petition Act, petitions can be submitted not only in writing but also online. Additionally, if the petitioner wishes to make it public, the 'Online Petition System' allows for public petitions to gather citizens' opinions through the 'Public Petition System.'
Citizens can petition on matters such as ▲relief for damages ▲requests for correction or disciplinary action against unlawful or improper conduct by public officials ▲enactment, revision, or abolition of laws and regulations ▲operation of public systems or facilities ▲and other matters within the authority of the petitioned institution.
The review committee deliberates on matters such as 'whether to disclose public petitions' and 'handling of petitions including investigation results.'
