Ahead of General Election, Italian Right-Wing Parties Agree on Prime Minister Recommendation Method
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Ahead of the early general election scheduled for September 25, Italy's right-wing parties are strengthening their unity again, including a sudden agreement on the prime minister recommendation method.
The leaders of the three parties in the 'Right-wing Coalition'?the far-right Brothers of Italy (FdI), the League (Lega), and the center-right Forward Italy (FI)?held talks in Rome on the 27th (local time) and agreed that the party with the most votes will have the authority to recommend the prime minister candidate.
In a statement released after the meeting, they said, "The Right-wing Coalition will recommend to President Sergio Mattarella the prime minister candidate nominated by the party that receives the most votes in the general election."
According to the agreement, if the right-wing coalition wins, Giorgia Meloni, a member of the Chamber of Deputies with roots in 'neo-fascism,' is likely to become Italy's first female prime minister.

Earlier, Meloni expressed her intention for the prime minister position in an interview with the daily newspaper La Stampa published on the 23rd, stating that the leader of the party with the most votes in the general election would enter the Rome Prime Minister's Office, which sparked some backlash.
