Kim Tae-jin, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Resident-led Children's Playground' Development
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Kim Tae-jin, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council (Progressive Party), proposed the creation of a ‘Resident-led Children's Playground.’
According to Seo-gu Council on the 27th, Seo-gu is promoting the ‘Together Playground’ project, investing 5.1 billion KRW by 2023 to create playgrounds representing each neighborhood.
Last year, moving away from the uniform concept of playgrounds, an ‘eco-friendly zipline’ was installed at Jangsu Children's Park, receiving positive responses from residents.
Councilor Kim stated, “Environmental improvements should be pursued in a resident-led manner and operated in connection with creating village jobs.”
He added, “As seen from the achievements of the Together Playground project, we must no longer remain with uniform and simple park designs. Even after creation, residents should directly operate and manage the playgrounds, developing into a sustainable virtuous cycle that leads to village job creation.”
According to Councilor Kim, Uncheon Children's Park can become a new resident-led model.
Kim said, “Uncheon Children's Park consistently ranks environmental improvement as the top village agenda during student assemblies and village meetings, indicating a solid village community infrastructure to handle this. We must secure 700 million KRW in city funds to establish a sustainable resident-led model linked to village jobs.”
