Moryang Sutbul Galbi, located in Chunghyo-dong, Gyeongju, offers seasoned ribs at 5,000 won per serving (150g), making it affordable and always crowded with customers during meal times. Despite everything except salaries going up, the reason they can maintain these prices is that the couple runs the business together, saving on labor costs to increase customer satisfaction.
Kang Kyung-tae and Park Jeong-ok, representatives of Moryang Sutbul Galbi, said, “If customers can enjoy their meals with good ingredients and leave satisfied, what could be happier for a business owner than that?” and added, “We have no plans to raise prices for the time being.”
Another place is Geoncheon Public Bathhouse ‘Geoncheontang’ in Geoncheon-eup. This place has kept the entrance fee at 3,000 won for adults for 20 years without any increase.
Thanks to the affordable price, elderly customers with limited budgets continue to visit, and seeing the seniors who have completed their bathing rituals is a tradition passed down through three generations.
Choi Seok-moon, representative of Geoncheontang, said, “Raising prices feels like abandoning my elderly mother’s longtime friends, so we are not considering a price increase,” and added, “We will continue to focus on serving as a community gathering place.”
Gyeongju City has selected 23 reasonable price businesses that contribute to stabilizing living costs for ordinary citizens.
‘Reasonable Price Businesses’ are selected through comprehensive evaluations including on-site inspections, based on criteria such as affordable prices, clean hygiene, and quality standards for personal service industries such as food service, beauty salons, and laundry services.
Currently, 23 businesses have been designated, including 16 in dining, 3 in food and beverage, 2 in beauty, and 2 in bathhouse industries. Gyeongju City posts the list of reasonable price businesses on the city hall website to inform the public.
Designated reasonable price businesses receive various benefits such as ▲incentives for desired items by industry ▲promotion on the city website ▲support for waste volume-based bags ▲production of reasonable price business certification plaques.
Moreover, quarterly incentives for desired items by industry have been increased from 300,000 won to 1,300,000 won, providing an annual benefit of up to 5,200,000 won.
