Ozone Advisory Issued Across Seoul... "Outdoor Activities Should Be Limited"
Additional Appointments in Downtown, Northeast, and Southeast Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On the 26th, an ozone advisory was issued across Seoul.
On the 26th, the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Research issued an ozone advisory at 4 PM for downtown Seoul, the northeast, and southeast areas.
Since 2 PM, an ozone advisory has been in effect for the northwest area (Mapo, Seodaemun, Eunpyeong) and the southwest area (Yangcheon, Gangseo, Guro, Geumcheon, Yeongdeungpo, Dongjak, Gwanak).
Seoul City issues an advisory when the 1-hour average ozone concentration in the autonomous districts within the respective areas reaches 0.120 ppm or higher.
As of 4 PM, the highest concentrations by area are downtown (Yongsan-gu) 0.132 ppm, northeast (Dongdaemun-gu) 0.139 ppm, and southeast (Seocho-gu) 0.124 ppm.
Ozone is a secondary pollutant generated when volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere react photochemically with solar energy. High concentrations of ozone can irritate the respiratory tract and mucous membranes, causing inflammation and potentially leading to lung diseases.
