According to the county, in order to prevent heat-related illnesses among residents and reduce the perceived temperature to create a comfortable living environment, the operation of road water spraying trucks will be expanded to the myeon (township) level.
Since 2019, the county has operated water spraying trucks in the Hamyang-eup urban area during the heatwave period, and starting this year, it has additionally expanded the operation to Anui, Sudong, Macheon, and Seosang myeon, where the heatwave reduction efficiency of water spraying trucks is high.
The water spraying trucks circulate along major roads in the urban area from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., spraying water to lower the temperature around the roads, thereby alleviating the urban heat island phenomenon and removing fine dust, which also improves air quality.
To prevent heatwave damage, the county is implementing various policies including ▲ operation of 12 shade shelters (one additional shelter installed this year) ▲ operation of 280 village broadcasting stations ▲ sending heatwave prevention text messages to residents ▲ operation of 11 Yangsan rental stations ▲ guidance and inspection of private and public workplaces ▲ operation of 282 heatwave shelters ▲ patrols by 11 flood and wind disaster monitors advising outdoor farming workers to refrain from activities ▲ visiting health care services ▲ safety checks for vulnerable groups during scorching heat through customized elderly care services.
