CU, Self-Diagnosis Kit Prices Slashed by 20%
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] CU announced on the 26th that it has decisively reduced the price of self-diagnostic kits.
The discount rate is 20%, with the price for a single kit dropping from 5,000 won to 4,000 won, and the two-kit pack from 10,000 won to 8,000 won.
By lowering the individual unit price of self-diagnostic kits, CU believes customers can purchase the necessary quantity at a cheaper price, encouraging quick and proactive self-diagnosis, thereby strengthening daily quarantine measures.
In fact, last week's sales of CU's self-diagnostic kits increased sharply by 126.6% compared to the previous week. As the spread of COVID-19 continues, demand for self-diagnostic kits at convenience stores is steadily rising.
This is the second time CU has reduced the price of self-diagnostic kits. When the sales price restriction was lifted in April this year, CU proactively lowered prices to reduce the burden on consumers.
The reason CU is the only company in the industry able to lower the price of self-diagnostic kits is that it minimizes the intermediate distribution process, allowing supply at a more reasonable price.

Jinyoungho, Head of Product Division at BGF Retail, said, “As the spread of COVID-19 intensifies day by day, convenience stores are doing their best to ensure stable supply of self-diagnostic kits by utilizing their nationwide store network. Through this price reduction, CU will help improve consumer welfare and strengthen its role as a public infrastructure, actively striving to wisely overcome the COVID-19 crisis.”
