Jangseong-gun Makes Every Effort to Prevent Safety Accidents During the Rainy Season
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeonnam is making every effort to prevent safety accidents during the rainy season.
The county announced on the 25th that it has been conducting safety inspections of permitted construction sites in the region since the 21st.
The inspection targets are 21 large-scale construction sites and development permit project sites. A joint inspection team of nine officials from the County Office's Civil Service Department's Construction Team and Development Civil Service Team is directly visiting the sites to conduct detailed inspections.
The joint inspection team is focusing on inspections to prepare for heavy summer rains, including poor drainage around construction due to ongoing work, risk of slope collapse, compliance with safety measures within the permit area, and installation of disaster prevention facilities.
In addition, they are carefully monitoring whether construction site management complies with permit conditions.
A county official stated, "Since this is directly related to the safety of residents and workers, if any violations are found, construction will be immediately halted. We plan to respond strongly, including restoration to the original state and filing charges according to relevant laws."
The county removes risk factors in advance through prompt measures such as drainage maintenance, rockfall removal, and slope protection installation in areas prone to disasters or where safety management is insufficient. The inspection period lasts until the 29th.
Meanwhile, the county is also accelerating large-scale maintenance projects in areas prone to frequent flooding.
Previously, the county was selected in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2021 Comprehensive Flood and Storm Damage Residential Area Maintenance Project competition, securing a project budget of 48.9 billion KRW including national funds. Currently, detailed design is underway for the 'Jangsan District Comprehensive Flood and Storm Damage Residential Area Maintenance Project' targeting Jangsan-ri, Seosam-myeon, and Anpyeong-ri, Jangseong-eup.
The disaster recovery project for Odongso Stream in Jangseong-eup, which has caused damage to residents due to frequent flooding, began construction last year.
The 'Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project' for the lower reaches where Odongso Stream meets Hwangryong River is expected to break ground in September after administrative procedures are completed.
County Governor Kim Hanjong said, "The possibility of various disasters and accidents increases significantly during the rainy season. We will fundamentally block the causes of accidents through thorough safety inspections and carry out mid- to long-term disaster maintenance projects without any gaps."
