This training was held following South Korea’s designation as a World Health Organization (WHO) Global Bio Workforce Hub in February. A total of seven institutions, including GC Green Cross, are participating in this training.
GC Green Cross gave a presentation on the development and production process of its flagship product, the influenza vaccine, along with a tour of its research facilities. A total of 29 students from about 10 countries attended the training.
Shin Yoonchul, head of the development team at GC Green Cross who gave the presentation, said, “GC Green Cross has various commercialized vaccine products including the influenza vaccine, as well as multiple pipelines in development. We hope this opportunity to share the challenges and know-how experienced during vaccine development will greatly help students grow into experts in vaccines and biopharmaceuticals.”

The WHO Bio Workforce Hub provides training on vaccine and biopharmaceutical production processes to supply personnel to vaccine production bases, and South Korea is the only country in the world designated as such. With the COVID-19 pandemic highlighting the need for regional vaccine production, WHO is establishing vaccine production bases through facility construction and technology transfer.
