Presidential Office on Daewoo Shipbuilding Subcontractor Strike Follow-up: "Actions Will Continue According to Law and Principles"
Stock Ownership by 9th Grade Employee Woo at the Presidential Office Sparks Debate Over "Only Grade 4 and Above Required to Blind Trust Stocks"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 24th, the Presidential Office stated regarding the follow-up measures after the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering subcontractor labor union strike, "It is being carried out according to the law and principles."
A Presidential Office official said at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office building in the afternoon, "(Regarding the subcontractor union's) criminal responsibility goes without saying."
In response to a reporter's question that "Right after the labor-management negotiation was settled, ministers emphasized law and principles and vowed to strictly punish illegal acts, which some say poured cold water on the negotiation settlement and was too harsh," the official replied, "It was to emphasize the principles once again."
Another official explained, "During the process of explaining the agreement, the union mentioned that the issue of damages claims remains unresolved, which was a briefing. This is not true, so we corrected that point."
He added, "The party that suffered damages was Daewoo Shipbuilding and the original contractor company, which could not operate the workplace for about 50 days due to the subcontractor union, causing huge losses. That is why damages are being claimed from the subcontractor company."
In particular, he said, "Even though the Yoon Seok-yeol administration has not retreated at all from the principles regarding such issues, ministers clarified these suspicions."
Meanwhile, a Presidential Office official said regarding some reports that Woo Mo, a 9th-grade administrative staff member at the Presidential Office involved in the 'private recruitment' controversy, served as an auditor at his father's company and also held company shares, "I don't understand why this is a problem."
He also explained, "(Woo) claims that he served as an unpaid part-time auditor. The substance is a claim that it is not a conflict of interest. Even so, if there is a problem on paper, we will verify the facts and take action."
